Default best profession combo for versatility

I just got back into the game after more then 2 years (in preperation for GW2). I want to build more charaters and I have not yet bought the other campaigns other then proph. I am buying all of them which brings me to my question. Which is the best profession combo for versatility, hunting, fow,uw - you get the idea.

I know that each profession has its pros and cons hence the reason for team play but I'm curious as to what you veterans have discovered as the best profession combo.

Thanks in advance.

For real versatility, I'd go elementalist. An ele can go E/A to run a caller build for discord heroes, E/Mo to use ER infuse and protter builds, E/Rt for spirit spam or DwG builds, E/Me for vaettir farming, and many other combinations. Many different teams for elite areas have room in them somewhere for an ele with the right secondary and build.

the OP has only prophecies
and has been gone 2 years
i dont think assassin, ritualist are options and i doubt he will know what a DwG is or be farming vaettirs
also discord

necro is a good option for proph only as you can make a useful minion master at least and those are useful almost everywhere

Necro is going to be a great option. Their primary attribute Soul Reaping somewhat makes them a master of all casting trades due to amazing energy management. Not only that, but necro skills are extremely popular in PvE (minions + death nova, Spiteful Spirit, Orders, Mark of Pain, enfeeble blood, weaken armor, etc.). They are also very popular in FoW and UW. Another thing to note is that althought alot of other professions would be good for your needs, few of them have builds that people actually want that use prophecies only skills. Necro is probably best in this department aswell.

If you're going to play one character a lot, I suggest the one you actually enjoy the most. All of them are able to elite areas, although assassins seem the most speed clear and dungeon run-ish.

many classes in gw are actually pretty versatile in their own way. you need to be more specific in the types of roles you want to play.

anet has labelled the ritualist as the "jack-of-all-trades" class, so i'll have to give you the same answer until you be more specific in what you want.

i would say rangers are kind of left out of that. just saying.

personally i would say that an E/? is the best way to go. its really easy(all you gotta do is put and click skills and whatch stuff blow up) so its preety good for beginers.

Just my 2 cents.. im also biased considering i think rits/eles the only pure professsions left..

He said they are all able to do elite areas, not they are all able to Pug elite areas.

I would suggest ritualists. Besides having kickass armor, they can do a lot of things well. Rits are best known for spirit spamming but they are also good at healing, direct damage through channeling lightning damage (be sure to bring one of the +ar penetration spells to make up for the monster's armor), protting with defensive spirits, supporting with a variety of good support spells, explosive growth minion bombing, and spirit strength + any martial weapon.

The ritualist is hands down the most OP to come in PVE besides soul reaping with 100 minions before they capped minions at 10. Ever since they fixed spirits to be <1 second cast times there has been nothing more ridiculous.

I still have screenshots of being a 100 minion minionmaster.

But yeh, Grenth wins in PVE. (read: Death magic + Spirits)

Meta: N/Rt healer, N/any Minion bombing, Rt/any SoS channeling spirit spam.

After a certain point in the story line you can freely change your secondary, so you don't want to choose a "profession combo" but a "primary profession".

And you need to say what your "versatil character" should be capable of.
Melee? Ranged? Magic?
Damage? Support? Heal/Prot?
Good at solo? Good with Henchmen/Hero? Good in team farm builds (e.g. Speed Clears)? Good for general PvE?

Depends on what you want to play etc. Like the person above me said.

If you want to be versatile, then the necro is a great thing for you. You can go Assassin Promise MoP, MM, N/Rt Healer, SS, N/Rt SoS, etc. The primary attribute soul reaping allows the necro to do lots of things. Anyways, the necromancer is my main and I love to play him, just because it's versatility and (almost) unlimited energy.

If you primary want to do things like healing/supporting/protecting, then monk is the way to go for you. (IMO)

Anyway, I think almost every profession can be very versatile. For example the assassin, you can just use a dagger build but you can also go critical scythe or assacaster, etc. It's just the way you use it's versatility.

SoS belongs on a Rit. The extra damage from +1 headgear, +1 minor rune (or even +2 or +3) is more useful than soul reaping will help you. SoS is a signet firstly. Soul reaping is better for spammy restoration magic skills with 3-5 cooldown, which SoS is not. SoS only needs you to use summon spirits to move or heal your spirits. You could make an exception for paniful bond being 15 energy, but giving up that extra HP (spawning power) and DPS on each of your spirits is generally a bad idea.

P.S. Don't run a Dervish in hard mode with a scythe and then not use buffs to boost armor. Monks will cry bloody hell because you will be taking 200-300 damage very often.
